What do these bond rates mean?

These are fixed-rate savings accounts, sometimes marketed as bonds, from UK deposit-taking institutions. The Bank of England collects average quoted rates, rather than the single best rate on the market. They are different from tradable investment bonds or UK government gilts.

How are fixed-rate savings bonds different from gilts?

A savings bond is normally a bank or building society deposit with a specified interest rate and access conditions. A gilt is a government debt security with a market price and yield that can change daily. The displayed savings rates are not guaranteed offers, and any FSCS protection depends on the provider and eligibility.
